“Can I haaandle the seasonsss, of myyyyy liiiife, mmhmmmmm.”
Now that we all have the song in our heads, we are here to say that yes, you can handle the seasons of your life. Let us tell you why.
But first, we’re going to set the scene (as always). It’s Thursday, and we are 30,000 feet in the air, on our way to visit our brother Walker at USC in LA. This week has been a long one. We avoided going to the store so that we didn’t have a bunch of excess groceries before we left town (adulting). This resulted in us eating banana pancakes for dinner for four nights in a row (also adulting). We are in our 🫶🏼breakfast4dinner🫶🏼 era. And while we are on the topic of eras and seasons—
Nature’s seasons are the ones that most often come to mind at the mention of “seasons.” Fall turns to winter, winter to spring, spring to summer, and summer to fall, again and again and again. As we write this, we are leaving behind the dog days of summer and entering that crispy, golden feeling that belongs distinctly to autumn. Just like that—no fuss, no hustle, just nature doin’ her thing and minding her own business. No matter what is going on in our little human lives, the leaves will turn golden in the fall and green again in the spring. It is predictable—familiar, even. We don’t even have to lift a finger: nature knows what to do and when to do it. As human beings, we are intrinsically a part of, and belonging to, nature. The same intelligence that tells the flower when to bloom and the tree when to grow exists in us, too. There is a rhythm to the way that our lives unfold. The way we see it, this intelligence informs two different types of “eras” or “seasons” — the ones created for us, and the ones we create for ourselves.
There will be things that happen in your life that are entirely unpredictable and end up launching you into a completely new season. These things may be exciting, like a job promotion in a new city. However, there will also be certain unexplainable, unknowable events that occur in your life, too: things that don’t make sense, but shift the ground that you stand on forever. There is a limit to what we know as human beings, and it’s designed this way for a reason. Not everything is ours to know and understand.
Then, there are the seasons of our lives that we consciously choose to create for ourselves. As human beings, we have the power to proclaim where we stand and what we are prioritizing during a certain period of our lives. Take this time last year, for example – we were grinding on school work during the week, going out every weekend, making appearances at every tailgate, and living our best social, college, party era. And while that was a great season for us then, that’s just not the season we are in now. This fall, we haven’t been going out as much, we are putting less of an emphasis on school, and we are taking the weekends to rejuvenate, rest, and relax. This looks like sleeping in, drinking lots of oat milk lattes, driving through back country roads, and brainstorming what kind of self-proclaimed wisdom we feel like dropping that Sunday. Needless to say, a weekend this fall looks very different than a weekend last fall. But that’s what we’re feeling right now, and it is just one of the many seasons that we will go through during the course of our lives.
As you look back on your life, you may notice the rise and fall of your seasons, too. Some seasons are for the grind—you are getting up early, making moves, getting shit done, and taking action. It’s nose to the grindstone, baby, and during that season, you are all about it. Because it’s what your soul is calling for in that moment. Grind era. Sunrise season. During other seasons, you may notice that you’re much more reclusive and inward-focused. You’re sleeping more, moving slowly, absorbing rather than creating, and recharging your battery. Sleeping era. Slow, flowy season. Sometimes your world expands and gets busy. Other times, it shrinks and feels more quiet. Your eras are individual to you, and that is the most fun part. Only you will know what you need during a certain moment or period of time, and you get to go out and create it for yourself.
We invite you to ask yourself — “What season am I in right now? What am I prioritizing? What am I putting my time and energy into?” Maybe the focus of your current season is growing your business, or improving your health, or going out and meeting new people, or pulling off all A’s. We have had fun naming the era that we’re in (right now, we oscillate between “hermit era” and “pioneer woman-wholesome-homesteader season.” LOL.) No matter what season you’re in right now, know that each one is good and necessary to the whole of your life. Like we said, you carry an innate intelligence about what you need and when you need it. You know when to plant the seeds and when to blossom <3
We hope that this was helpful and informative, in some way or another ;) We are on a late flight back into Nashville on Sunday night, and then hit the ground running. While we did mention that we are putting ~less~ of an emphasis on school, we’re also trying not to fail so that will require some studying hours this week. Catch us attempting to memorize hundreds of Biodiversity of Plants terms. Prayers welcome. Thanks for sticking around, XOXO.
Wow, love this.🍂
Love the seasons of my life. It keeps it exciting to say the least.
